2008 was a busy for the world. Obama's campaign was going full swing. Heath Ledger's acting in The Dark Knight became legendary. The summer Olympics became the only thing to watch on TV. And in the middle of this busy year, there was one day, in particular, that I still remember. Of course, it was just a typical Saturday afternoon for me - driving to lunch while talking to the Lord. I like to think that my relationship with Jesus is unique and special - filled with honest dialogues and vulnerable emotions that are the foundation of everything we talk about. And I know that we all have those moments when He speaks to us and we are caught off guard - most of the times we're in awe of the depth of grace His words carry. But this was different. This conversation with the Lord changed my whole outlook on my future and how to look at opportunities and risks. He spoke to me plainly and asked, "What do you want to do in life?"
I was shocked. I felt the goosebumps on my skin and the churning in my stomach which slowly led to tears in my eyes (which I don't recommend because of safety reasons.) He was asking me - showing me that He cared about me. Wanting to know my opinions. Curious about my dreams - the dreams that I didn't tell anyone about and even the dreams I didn't even know I had. More importantly, His own question showed me that there was more inside of me than I knew - and it was worth finding out. And this beautiful process will show you that the more you dig inside of yourself to find out what your dreams are, the more we see God breathing and moving inside.
What do you want to do in life? Where do you want to travel to? When you go to bed, what do you stay awake dreaming about? When God made every single person on this earth, He deposited his own nature and his character in us. in His image. Each one of us represents and reflects just a facet of His personality and dreams. And you know what His real dream is? His dream is to see every single mountain and sphere of society madly in love with His son Jesus. Lance Wallnau has a teaching on this - that there are essentially 7 mountains that a society has which are Business, Family, Religion, Education, Government, Arts & Entertainment, Media, and Science & Technology. Do you like business? Good. Snowboarding? Perfect. Acting? I couldn't agree with you more. The truth is that God is looking for people who want to be sent out to each of the mountains of society to see everything about it transformed and in love with Jesus.
Now, the thing is that you might find out which mountain you want to go to by actually finding out which mountains you don't like. What I mean is that you might have to try being a scientist before realizing that you actually want to be in government. But that's ok! Life is just too short to be consuming it with things that you aren't passionate about. It's too short for staying comfortable where you are at. The Kingdom we live in is a kingdom of risk - a kingdom of faith. Life is meant to be lived with passion - because passion is the guts of what dreams are made of. Our pastor Bill Johnson has a saying, "The Christian life is meant to be known for it's passion, not it's disciplines." Find out what you are passionate about and don't let go until you are living and breathing it. You'll find out that it was God who put that passion there in the first place and wants to use you in ways you never thought possible.
