Throughout history there have been stories about men and women who grabbed hold of the fact that it is possible for one person to change the world.We read about their lives in history books, tell children about their incredible feats, and immortalize them in movies. There is something so intriguing about these people that we continue to talk about them for centuries.

My husband Jon and I have three amazing boys.  Their ages are 10, 7 and 4.  We have decided that as we raise them, we want to make sure they understand their role in this life.  And that role is protector. You see, God created man as the stronger one, but not so he could dominate, prey upon, or “take” from his environment.

I was at a youth conference for 2 days right around Christmas time. As I watched young people get touched by God all around the room, I started remembering back to the times I went to youth conferences. I remembered going for a weekend, being surrounded by people going after God, hearing amazing guest speakers, and getting totally set on fire!

What if Peter had passed this man by? Would it be as if he said, "What I have, I refuse to give you?" Or maybe, "I'm not sure if what I have will do you any good, so see ya when I come out of church!"

Peter discovered what he had by giving it away! And as he did, it kept becoming more and more until one day his shadow was healing people!!

On my recent trip to Australia with Bill Johnson I was quickly reminded that exposure to the sun will leave me with a sun burn. We rode a boat down the river into Sydney Harbor and I had to go inside because I could feel the sun making me into toast. Before we had boarded the boat we met a young man who was in a wheelchair due to being in a car accident many years earlier.

Throughout my travels and even at home a common theme is trying to figure out what we can do in order to get what we want from God. Somehow in the midst of our desire for more we have missed the promises in the Bible where we are told that God is good and gives us good things. When we get to the place of needing more we suddenly become irrational in our requests and ask for things that God has already given us. Why does this matter?

I see myself on a journey to the Sun. The Sun is a long way off, but still blindingly intense. Darkness fills my vision if I turn away from it. As I get closer to the Sun I start to feel the warmth of it on my body. I not only see the light but I also start to experience its effect on my body. The heat increases the closer I get, until the intensity begins to make me feel uncomfortable, but I’m drawn ever closer.

While talking with a coach recently about the vision I have for my life I began second-guessing myself. One of the things I had told him was something that had just within the past few weeks become highly important to me. While I mentioned spending more time creating this vision I thought for a moment and said that I need to make sure that this is what I am supposed to do.

It seems like every time I ask God for direction I get a question in return.

"What do you want me to do?" I ask him.

"What do you want?" He responds.
