I have always loved reading biographies. If you saw my bookshelves in my office, you would see that easily my favorite subject to read on is the life of leaders and revivalists. I am always inspired by encountering the lives of men and women who have been used by God to shift the atmosphere over a nation. One persons sacrifice and obedience can bless an entire nation.
It challenges me to press in even more for personal breakthrough because I realize that my personal breakthrough will result in corporate breakthrough. Paul and Silas experienced this when they were in prison. At the midnight hour, in shackles, and worshiping God an earthquake came to set them free. But the earthquake that God sent to set them free didn't just set them free but loosed everyone's chains in that prison. When Paul and Silas received breakthrough, everyone received breakthrough. I believe God is calling us as Believers to embrace the life of a leader. John Maxwell says, "Leadership is influence - nothing more, nothing less." We are called to be influencers in society. When God said we were called to be the head and not the tail, He is not just telling us that we are to be victorious and no one will be able to walk all over us. He is saying we are to be the ones who lead, not follow. We are not in the world just to take a ride. We are here in our nation to set the direction of where the nation goes. Last year, I took my then 6 year old on a long bike ride. She had her own bike that she rides extremely well but since it was going to be such a long ride I hooked up one of those attachments to the back of my bike that is a smaller bike but without the front tire. She sits on it, peddles with me, but is attached to my bike in such a way that she has on say in where we go. She is in essence "along for the ride." As Christians we were never called to be "along for the ride" in our nations and cities. But in order for us to be the head and not the tail, to lead and not follow, we must say yes to the call of God to be a leader. And then, as a leader, we must press in for personal breakthrough so that our city and nation can experience breakthrough. As we follow God and our obedient to His Word in the area of finances we get breakthrough which releases breakthrough in our city. We must press in for our marriages, our families, our personal issues, etc... because as we get breakthrough it releases breakthrough for those around us. This is the life of a leader. Will you embrace this call. Your campus, city, and nation desperately need you to step into your destiny as a leader so breakthrough can come.
